Hey world! It’s your favorite #SocialMediaGuru, Keely. As a single 20-something I’ve been perusing the vast world of online dating for the past several months. If you’ve ever tried out online dating, you know just how much fun it can be. *rolls eyes* I’ve had some dates, some fun stories and a lot of frustration. The other day I got to thinking and I realized how similar online dating is to marketing, so I decided to take over our blog page for a day to share some insights.
Here are the 10 things I’ve learned about marketing from online dating:
No, direct mail is not dead. Statistics show that 39% of customers try a business because of a mail advertisement. With numbers like those, it may be time to get going and give direct mail a try. The big question is: how do you make your campaign stand out?
Here are our tips for creating a direct mail campaign:
Make it feel nice
We’re not talking about the warm and fuzzies here. You want the mail you send to actually feel nice in your hand. Think nice, heavy paper, unique shape, etc. The upfront cost will be greater, but having a high quality mailer helps prevent the quick throw away and deliver you more return.
As a creative entrepreneur your job can take you all over the city, country or world. Inspiration can strike at any time. It’s a horrible feeling to be stuck in a place where you are unable to jot down a note.
To prevent the loss of those brilliant ideas, here are some items you should have with you all the time:
You can’t keep handy things handy without carrying a bag. Guys, this includes you. Nice canvas and leather backpacks are trendy right now. Pick one up and fill it up with the remaining 9 things.

Google helps to bring order to the worldwide web and they are continually making their search engine easier to use. We’ve complied a few tips to help you become a Google master.
Here are our 10 Google tips to help you find what you’re looking for:
1. Keep It Simple
When you’re looking for something on Google start with a simple search first. Search for “27th Letter Media” as opposed to “27th Letter Media Marketing Company Denver”. If you don’t find what you’re looking for with a simple search, start adding in more terms.
2. Use Keyword Friendly Terms
Most companies create their website to be searchable, but you may need to think like the company instead of the reader. Instead of searching for “I need marketing help” try “small business marketing help.”
3. Search Within a Site
If you’re looking for something specific on a website, try doing a search within a site. To do this type in what you’re looking for, say “content” followed by site:[insert site here]. For example: website creation site:27thlettermedia.com. Using search within a site will show you all pages on the site with the keyword you are looking for.
Managing a business -- the dollars and cents and the people -- can make anyone’s head spin, but you don’t have to let people see you sweat. Make decisions throughout your daily life to keep you from reaching the boiling point.

Small business ownership is a beast of a job, but one that most owners wouldn’t trade for the world. Managing daily operations of a business can keep even the best of us up at night. By handing off tasks to other like minded professionals you’ll be able to focus more on what really matters, building your business!
Here is our list of 5 tasks small business owners should outsource
Managing social media accounts seems easy enough, all you need to do is publish an update every now and again, right? While that idea isn’t wrong, you won’t see much benefit by using that strategy. By outsourcing social media management to the pros, you will know you’re making the most of social media efforts. A designated social media manager will keep an eye on engagement, reach, trends and more to keep your brand relevant. Plus, they should report regularly on their effort so you can see how it’s working. Take a look at our social media management price sheet if you’re interested in taking this one off your list.
